Description:

large hornbill that feeds on the ground. It is becoming uncommon over much of its range and is considered critically endangered in S Africa due to its slow reproductive rate. They are community breeders and each pair has at least two adults heklping raise a single chick. Srudies have found that experienced pairs raising a young without help are generally unsuccessful, and at the same time, young birds without at least 6 years experience are equally unsuccessful. They may live to be 70 years
