This skipper butterfly is Identified by the large white patches on the wings. Ranges from Argentina to the southern U.S.

Habitat:

Spotted on a flowering Lantana at the Falcon Lake State Park butterfly garden.

I agree. The habitat along the Rio Grande provides a home for many Central and South American strays of moth and butterflies, which are rare when they come this far north.

Thank you Saturniidae27. I just spent nine days exploring the LRGV. I probably got pics of over 50 butterfly species alone with many rarities. The extended warm weather in November has really extended their range. It will of course take awhile to post everything.
