American Alligator

Alligator mississipiensis

This spotting was made at a rest stop in Alligator Alley, Florida. These crocodilians are considered the apex predators of the Everglades Wetlands, feeding on fish, birds, reptiles, mammals and amphibians. They are also known for digging holes which serve as refuge for aquatic species during the dry season. This activity has earned Alligators the tittle of Keystone Species
