This spotting was made at a rest stop in Alligator Alley, Florida. This is the largest species of heron in the United States. They feed in any small animals that can catch, such as rodents, amphibians, reptiles, small birds, fish and invertebrates. Due to its harsh croak it is sometimes called grouchy old man.
