Old Man of the Woods

Strobilomyces floccopus

Description:

Hard to mistake this one. Has pores instead of gills like a bolete. Roughish texture on the cap.

Habitat:

Mixed woods.

Notes:

Some say edible if young but I found it lacking in the earthy flovours I expect from wild mushroom, but still a good find.
