Willet

Tringa semipalmata

Description:

This willet was one of several shorebirds foraging for food at the ocean's edge. Willet populations declined sharply due to hunting in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Their numbers have increased again since then but they are still considered at risk, especially in light of continued habitat loss.

Habitat:

Topsail Island
