Northern River Otter scat

Lontra canadensis laxatina

Description:

Scat spotted during a photowalk through Huntley Meadows Park. According to several professional naturalists, this is Northern River Otter scat as indicated by the abundance of crayfish shells and fish scales in the excrement. It is interesting to note that the otter(s) has/have "marked" two places where abandoned beaver lodges are located. Some naturalists speculate the otter(s) is/are looking to prey upon beaver kits.
