Little bee-eater

Merops pusillus

Description:

A tiny green and buff bee-eater, growing up to some 15 cm in length. Green back, rump and wing covers, with rufous underparts and flight feathers. Black mask and black collar, with yellow chin in between. Bright blue supercilium.

Habitat:

Resident breeder in most of sub-Saharan Africa, and present in savanna, woodlands, forest edges and around wetlands. Here, observed regularly, during the first half of the year 2013, in many urban and semi-urban settings of Kinshasa : gardens, parks, parking lots, banks of river Congo.
