Wood Blewit

Description:

A bizarre lavender mushroom growing in hardwood mulch. The extra growth off the side of the cap was rather unsettling...it looked as if the mushroom had grown an extra mouth.

Habitat:

Hardwood mulch in garden in mixed woods.

Notes:

Late in the season for this particular mushroom, but white spores make it pretty clearly C. nuda. We've been having very weird weather lately, so no wonder the mushrooms are confused.
