Sulphur-crested Cockatoo

Cacatua galerita

Description:

Some of the numerous sulphur-crested cockatoos that hang around in our yard. We occasionally put wild bird seed out for them and they squabble over the feeding perch - some of them flick the seed they dont like out of the feeder which makes the local brush turkey pretty happy :) One of the young ones is afflicted with beak and feather disease - the healthy cockatoos bully it for food so it feeds on the dropped seed on the ground or waits until the others have finished feeding to come feed alone at the feeder.

Habitat:

Pretty much anywhere except the far inland deserts of eastern Australia. Very common in the suburbs.
