Dark-eyed Junco

Junco hyemalis

Description:

A Dark-eyed Junco feeding on sunflower seeds after a snow storm.

Habitat:

At a bird feeder in my yard next to a wooded area, near a large pond. About 4 inches of snow on the ground.

Notes:

I removed the snow from my bird feeders and put fresh seed in the morning after a snow storm. I noticed an increase in bird activity, presumably because most of their other food sources were covered.
