Western Banded Snake-eagle

Circaetus cinerascens

Description:

Medium sized and stocky eagle, some 45 to 50 cm in length. Pale grey-brown appearance overall, with some brighter brown feathers on chest. Short tail, barred whitish and black. Pale yellow eye.

Habitat:

African raptor, breeding all over sub-Saharan Africa. Here, observed around the lake Awasa in Ethiopia, a lake I already mentioned as a 'birdwatcher' paradise (I must say, all nature-watcher paradise...). Lake Awasa is a protected zone, and the forest surrounding the lake is touching suburbs of Awasa town.

Notes:

For a long time, I kept this spotting in my archives with a wrong ID. Many thanks to Álvaro Díaz Pastor (met on Facebook group Travelling Birders just today...) for correction and help.
