Thanks for your comment, Ryan! As far as I know, the nest is still in the tree and is currently unoccupied. Since no one identified the tree, I was thinking about revisiting the site in order to use "Leafsnap" app to ID the tree using one of its leaves. While I'm there, would it help to make measurements of the nest? Also, can you recommend a good Web resource that features lots of photos of different types of bird nests?

Looks a bit like a Robins nest, although size is hard to determine from this photo. A good way to id a nest is by cup size depth and material.
