Hoffmann's two-toed sloth

Choloepus hoffmanni

Description:

This skull is about 3 inches long. The upper jaw has four teeth plus the canine, the lower has 3 plus canine. As far as I can see the upper canines rest in front of the lower ones, and I am going crazy trying to figure out what this is. The protrusion on the lower jaw between the canines adds to the confusion (for me).

Habitat:

Caribbean coast forest, Costa Rica

Thank you! I looked up sloth skull but I guess the images that came up were three toed and that threw me off. Whew. Now I can sleep. (we find a surprising number of dead sloths around here).

The other species of sloth in Costa Rica is a member of a different genus and, therefore, was not the right one.
