Wendy, it is neat to hear about similar species from across the globe.

@ Eppie, you are welcome.

Thanks Lisa Powers for the info. That is good to know its bite is not deadly.

We have similar sp. in South Africa called Kite Spider. In Zulu it is called the hlateen, meaning forest spider. These are especially annoying critters this side, if you are the first in line whilst hiking in the Kwazulu Natal Forests, you are sure to walk through quite a few webs!

EppieBillena,
It is a spider of the outdoors and not very common to see. As far as I know, all spiders are venomous, but this one is not known to be harmful to humans. It is only about 2 cm at it's widest. As an orb weaver, it builds a large, intricate web.

Is this common in the area-house? And any idea if this is like the black widow that is poisonous? How big is it? It's a beautiful spider.

So cute!
