Accipiter cooperii
The Cooper’s Hawk is a medium sized hawk (11" long). It’s back, wings and tail are dark gray and the underside is rufous. The very top of the neck has a lighter rufous band. The tail is dark above and pale below with 3 black bands. Although not always visible, they have a natural crest (foto #2) unless it is held down. The beak is relatively short and the end ½ is black.
Photographed in a tree near a set of bird feeders in residential Omaha, NE (300 masl).
This was an unexpected visitor “near” our bird feeders this morning. I have always loved raptors, and this was my first Cooper’s Hawk, so I was happy. The other birds weren’t nearly as thrilled by his presence 😁

I'm sure I've seen them before, but this was the first time I could positively verity what it was. Thanks Brian.
Great spotting Tukup!
