Flower Fly

Description:

Female Flower Fly, 1 cm body length. The wings are longer than the body and are clear with brown spots. The body color is bronze and the thorax has 4 prominent dark longitudinal stripes. The abdomen has black bands. Family Syrphidae.

Habitat:

On flowers and bushes along the roadside, Km. 16, Highway between San Cristobal de Las Casas and Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas, Mexico.

Notes:

The male of this species might be all bronze colored, dark wings without spots and very faint or no stripes on the thorax. See: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/312....
