Savannah sparrow

Passerculus sandwichensis

Description:

A relatively small and widespread sparrow. I often find these birds in open fields and forest edges. This streaked bird is noted for its yellow eyebrow, pinkish legs, and bill as well as a short notched tail. I found this one singing its song, a distinctive trill preceded by a series of short notes.

Habitat:

Spotted at the edge of a wetland at Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge.
