Luna Moth

Actias luna

Description:

Large moth with long tails that is a pale greenish mint coloration. There is a dark band along the top margin, and 4 eyespots, one on each wing. Paler fuzzy body, with brown legs.

Habitat:

Attracted to a blacklight and halogens reflected onto a white sheet on my porch in a gated community surrounded by rural farming.

Notes:

They are notorious terrible flyers. This one banged itself on the roof of the porch and other surfaces in the area, which is hard for me to watch. This is my absolute favorite moth, I'm super stoked to share it during National Moth Week~!
