Lewisia rediviva


A low-growing succulent that has edible roots albeit bitter as the common name implies. Its attractive flower is the state flower of Montana.


Spotted in the Wenas Wilderness. Found in western North America in dry rocky soil that is usually sage-steppe.


The genus is named Lewisia in honor of Captain Meriweather Lewis.
