Winter Firefly

Description:

Black beetle with red markings on the head. On this specimen, those markings are dulled to a pinkish-orange color. This specimen was part of a gathering of fireflies on the same tree trunk.

Habitat:

Amongst its comrades on the trunk of a mature deciduous tree in a nature reserve. It was near the water.

Notes:

This species of firefly is the one I see most often.
