Brushfoot butterfly, 2 to 2.6 inch wingspan. Similar to Hackberry Emperor (which has white spots near the front of the wings).
Woodlands, water, gardens, lawns. Rarely lands on flowers. Adults feed on carrion, plant sap, and dung.
This beauty was sitting on a garden hose next to a jar of linseed oil.
