Ploceus brachypterus
This is second time I'm posting this, this time in order to correct the mistake in ID-ing; so in fact this is NOT the Heuglin's weaver (as I IDed it before), but a larger Olive-naped. Sparrow sized, the breeding male has a pale eye and a black mask. The crown is golden yellow changing to golden-orange bordering to mask. The back is plein, and olive-green coloured.
This is a resident breeder in parts of Western Africa, closer to the coast. Within its range it occurs in woodlands, and prefers forests, thickets and riverine scrubs - such is here, observed in shrubs on banks of a stream in a city park.
Many thanks to Bram Piot who pointed out my mistake on African Bird Club forum, and provided the right ID. The Olive-naped Weaver is a newly recognized species, it was previously lumped with Ploceus nigricollis (Black-necked Weaver) as one species. This change came recently (I don't know when) and there is not many sources on this new species yet... As a new species, it seems this is the first reporting on NOAH...
