Indian Pond Heron catching prey

Ardeola grayii

Description:

This bird likes flooded paddyfields too, hence also called Paddybird. The bird here is in its breeding plumage. It had a tough time swallowing its catch because of the spiny dorsal fins! But it managed to position its prey perfectly for swallowing ....after repeated attempts.... and had a protein-rich breakfast.

Habitat:

Waterbody near my house. Urban residential area.

Notes:

The video button on my camera got stuck!
