Thread-waisted Wasp mating pair

Eremnophila aureonotata

Description:

Elegantly long bodied wasp. Black with white spots on the sides of the thorax and smoky wings. Adults are nectar feeders. The male holds on to the female just behind her head and mating often happens while the female is feeding at flowers.

Habitat:

Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, Virginia. Feeding at Mountain Mint blooms.
