Tufted Duck

Description:

This is a small diving duck, of some 40 to 45cm in length. Both sexes have dark brown back, neck, chest and head; While the breeding male has white or whitish belly and flanks, and develops a longer brown crest, which is barely a tuft in other plumages. Non-breeding male and females have bellies and flanks brown, of some paler shade than the rest of bodies. The eye is yellow.

Habitat:

Regularly observed on waters of lake Geneva (Leman), in urban and peri-urban setting, mixed with other waterfowl.
