Green Ground Beetle

Chlaenius sericeus

Description:

I spotted this ground beetle as it appeared to be wrestling a millipede. These beetles are predacious, but in this instance, the millipede was able to crawl away before being eaten by the beetle. The beetle's entire dorsal surface was a brilliant, metallic green. It was approximately 12 mm long.

Habitat:

Spotted in a mixed forest.
