hibiscus leaf-roller caterpillar

Description:

Leaf rollers (see 3rd photo) are the larvae of several different moth species that infest many types of trees and shrubs, in this case Hibiscus sp. This resembles a Hibiscus leafroller moth (Haritalodes derogata of Crambidae: Spilomelinae) http://ccs-hk.org/DM/butterfly/Pyralid/H... and http://lepidoptera.butterflyhouse.com.au...

Habitat:

Spotted on the same Hibiscus shrub as in http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/790... which depicts the pupa stage of this insect.

Notes:

These are frequently abundant on several Hibiscus shrubs in my yard but the plants ultimately seem not to suffer too much from the heavy infestations.
