There's a Slime Mold mission on Project Noah; this one posted to it looks a bit like yours: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/343.... Slime molds can look so different at different stages of their life (which are notoriously short), so it can be hard to tell.

This almost looks like it could be a slime mold (myxomycete).
