Paper wasp

Belonogaster sp? Wasp inferno! They were not bothered with me standing 30 cm from the nest, or lets put it this way, they did not bother me :) The wasp itself is app. 3 cm long.

In a bird hide, concrete house next to a small dam. Mkhaya game reserve, Swaziland

Some more detail information about paper wasp nest building can be found here: Kel wrote so good, so there is no use for me to do it too :)

Great pictures. They are beautiful and very interesting. I wonder if you have lost the fear of wasps and moved closer this time? :) paper wasps that are living in my house, become accustomed to my presence near, I can touch the nest lightly that they do not bite me. Yesterday I noticed that wasps drove 3 larvae out of the nest. Have not figured out why they have this behavior. I think that is similar the birds do when there is something wrong with the babies. I also suspect that the strong summer sun focusing directly on the cells, heating up so the nest and killing the larvae;

interestingly, these wasps are holding a green mass with the jaws, similar the wasps I photographed. I wonder if they have preference to feed the larvae with green caterpillars?

Thanks for my link to your paper wasp. I'm happy for that. :)
