There is one subspecies of Common Evening Brown in India

Melanitis leda leda Linnaeus, 1758 – Oriental Common Evening Brown

There are four subspecies of Dark Evening Brown Melanitis phedima in India

(1) Melanitis phedima varaha Moore, 1857 – Sahyadri Dark Evening Brown
(2) Melanitis phedima bethami de Nicéville, 1887 – Satpuda Dark Evening Brown
(3) Melanitis phedima bela Moore, 1857 – Bengal Dark Evening Brown
(4) Melanitis phedima ganapati Fruhstorfer, 1908 – Myanmarese Dark Evening Brown

Not Dark its Common Evening Brown...

Thanks kd for the comment and making it favourite. It's actually a large bush brown, height's about 55mm, i.e. over 2 inches! Small size upload was due to a mistake made on the mobile memory.
