Green Heron

Butorides virescens

"On The Wire" Green heron on the electrical line that goes to our home.

We live on a 10 acre partially wooded property in a farming community. There is no creek on our property, however the Mill Creek is located downhill and less than 1/4 mile south. Our property has numerous spruce and white pine as well as many deciduous hardwood trees. There are wild raspberry, currant, other flowering fruit producing bushes as well as a variety of vegetation. Frogs, toads, mice, and voles are abundant.

This image was photographed through my garage door window at 9:21 am This green heron was observed and photographed over a period of about 38 minutes.

Thank you for the nomination!

Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
