White Dove

Columba livia

Description:

Benidorm is famed for its White Doves which can be found on the rocky headland by the small harbour, along the adjacent Poniente beach and in nearby parks and leisure areas. They are descendants of the Rock Dove, later called Rock Pigeon, domesticated and bred for a pure white colour, and later escaped or released. Technically they are Feral Pigeons but locally they are known as White Doves.

Habitat:

Coastal rocks, beaches and parks.

Notes:

The 4th picture shows a Feral Pigeon in a plumage close to the Original Rock Dove. Feral Pigeons can come in all variations between these two examples in addition to a multitude of other colours.
