Coyote track

Canis latrans

Description:

Coyote tracks are oval shaped and approx 2.5 in. Claws are usually present. One lobe on the leading edge of the interdigital pad. Inside toe slightly larger than outside. Front foot larger than hind. One way to distinguish between dog and coyote concerns the negative space between toe and pad. On a coyote track, a X shape can be drawn in the negative space, while on most domestic dogs, the negative space does not form an X. Also, dog tracks are much more circular.

Habitat:

Area around Lake Lewisville.
