Grey-headed Chachalaca

Ortalis cinereiceps

Description:

A slender bird with a long neck and tail and rounded wings. It is largely olive-brown with a grey head and patch of bare red skin on the throat. It has rufous primaries which are most visible in flight, which distinguishes it from the plain chachalaca.

Habitat:

On the road leading to a rural hotel in the foothills.

Notes:

It moves gracefully along branches in search of fruit, berries and young leaves.
