Greater Roadrunner

Geococcyx californianus

Habitat:

Golf course brush

Notes:

This large cuckoo is always a treat to see. They rarely fly and hunt lizards, rodents, and other small prey. This one played a game of hide and seek with me in the brush.

They are very awkward to photograph!

Hahaha Jim, too funny! I have trouble getting their photo sometimes too, but have gotten a few to cooperate for me. Nice shots, Joshua!

I have about 6 roadrunner photos, all of which show one side...the rear. By the time I see one, grab my camera, and get ready to shoot, it is gone. If anyone studies the feather configuration of a roadrunner's behind, I can assist. You have done a better job than I, Joshua!
