Eicochrysops meryamae
A tiny Lycaenid butterfly, one of the grass Blue's probably. It was flying around nectaring on little flowers in the wild grassy steppes of the high mountains. I had to chase it for a long while to get these shots !
3260 meters (10,700 Ft) in the Simien Mountains of Northern Ethiopia
This tiny species is a blue described endemic species, Eicochrysops meryamae, Rougeot, 1983 It is known only from the type specimen, which is in the Paris Museum of Natural History. Further specimens were collected but probably lost. Congratulations Pamela Sai. This species has never been photographed in the wild and until now was known only from near Debarek at 2 800 m in Gondar Province (the type locality).
