Lauren, I found a lot of these caterpillars living in a weed, but it was not in my yard, was on a dusty road, so I brought one of caterpillars to my house. I thought it would be happy in my garden, and I could see the pupa and butterfly. But it disappeared the next day. Sparrows must have eaten it. I was too stupid, should not strip it of its plant-home sweet home, and of course the caterpillar could not be without its host plant, which it feeds. Never again I transport caterpillars to my backyard. I learned my lesson.
Ha ha ha Sckel, me too! Half those 0's are spiracles anyway…. I looked everywhere for that larva and can't find one like it. It would be neat if you could feed it until it pupates (big jar with a fine mesh cloth over it so it won't get parasitized) and see which Sphinx it is.

Thank you, everyone. I realized a lot of numbers 0 in the body of the caterpillar. :)
