Paper Wasp

Polistes dominula

Description:

Well known black-and-yellow insect, size of the domestic bee or slightly larger; with orange antennae and brown transparent wings.

Habitat:

Here observed one very cold spring morning in an earthen pot on our balcony; I suppose it was too cold for it and the wasp looked groggy and very slow... Peri-urban environment of Geneva suburbs, Geneva lake valley; peri-urban but on the border of pasture, a meadow and an oak forest.

Notes:

I waited a few days, and removed the nest, and left it in the garden.
