48–60 cm; 145–230 g Combination of yellow bill, spotted wing coverts and pale underparts is diagnostic. In flight, has white inner secondaries and outer tail like Southern Red-billed and Damara Hornbills. Female and juv. have smaller bills and shorter casques; juv. has dark head and throat. Voice: Rapid, hollowsounding ‘tok tok tok tok tok tokatokatoka', given with head lowered and wings fanned. Status and biology: Common near-endemic resident in thornveld and dry, broadleafed woodland.
