American Pitcher Plant

Sarracenia 'Judith Hindle' (purpurea x flava) x leucophylla

Description:

A hybrid carnivorous "insectivorous" plant with parentage in the eastern United States. Catches insects with a "pitfall" type trap. The insects are drawn to the opening of the tube shaped trap with the smell of nectar and if the plant is lucky the insect will lose its footing on the waxy surface of the leaf and tumble down inside the tube. The plant will then digest the insect by secreting digestive fluids inside the trap.

Habitat:

Nutrient poor, acidic, damp soil.

Notes:

Not native to my area. This plant is part of my personal collection.
