Black-tailed Prairie Dog

Cynomys ludovicianus

Description:

A smallish ground rodent. They can often be heard making chirping noises, and sometimes this is the easiest way to find them. They are an important part of the ecosystem, and feed a lot of the big, charismatic predators we all like, but they do clear a lot of the vegetation from the areas where they live. Not even prickly yucca's are same from their teeth.

Habitat:

open field
