Spotting

Description:

Found in Englewood Florida in a mobile home park next to a canal and horse shoe pit.

Habitat:

Tortoise burrow

Notes:

The burrow is definitely from a tortoise. My parents live in a 55+ park in Florida and she has seen the tortoise come up out of it. The funny aspect of it is that the burrow is located in the back of the horse-shoe pit in the clubhouse area of the park. I have never seen a tortoise burrow and found it extremely interesting (the child in my also thinks it's "really cool") to be able to stand in front of it and look down it.

Hi Malcom Wilton-Jones, Jemma, LivanEscudero and akereemo245,
Thank you for the suggestions and wonderful comments. Malcom, I have reclassified the picture to the "Signs of Wildlife" mission. I am still new around here and am trying to figure it out. This is a great site and I am having fun learning as I go. LivanEscudero has a good point on the burrow being possibly from another animal. I do believe it is from a Gopher Tortoise but will have to double check with my Mother. She has seen the tortoise so that is how I am aware that it does not belong to another critter. Jemma, I will double check with my Mother to verify as to what type of tortoise it is so you don't drive yourself nuts! lol -Kelly

Hi Kelly, as the organism is not visible please add this to the "Signs of Wildlife" mission at http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/7208...

I guess any number of things could be using it as a home...but from the shape (and the fact that you seem to know it is a tortoise burrow) I bet it's a Gopher Tortoise.

Hey there Jemma! I think a fox, raccoon, or a mole may live there!
