Mossy chiton

Mopalia muscosa

This Mossy chiton was about 5 cm long. It's girdle is covered with stiff hairs. The eight plates that are visible allow the chiton to move across uneven surfaces.

Spotted on an exposed rock at low tide at a rocky beach.

Found on the west coast of North America.

So cool. I had no idea there were so many species of chitons. I obviously pays to go spotting when the tide is low. Well done, Brian.
