Fox Squirrel

Sciurus niger

Description:

This was a large female squirrel, and I would guess her to be 20 cm tall. The coat was a beautiful gray brown with a full bright orange tail mixed with the light gray on top. The stomach, neck and chin were a soft beige.

Habitat:

These squirrels have lived in our yard in Omaha for some time. We have tried almost everything to keep them from chewing holes in the soffit of the house. But they keep finding ways to scale the corners of the house and get in.

Notes:

I am torn between how pretty they are and how good they taste. If I can't keep them out of the house, I'm afraid my taste buds may win.
