Hispid cotton rat

Sigmodon hispidus


This rodent fell prey to a young red-tailed hawk that had first spotted it from across a meadow; the hawk perched in a tree above the rat for about 30 minutes and the rat stayed statue-still but the hawk ultimately got it.
