Forest Scorpion

Tityus sp ?

Description:

About 5cm without the tail, black without any markings. Strong glow under UV light (pictures #3 and #4). Nobody really knows why scorpions glow, but it seems that they convert UV light into a green/blue wavelength in their bodies. Green/blue, apparently is the colour which scorpions see best. There's some info about this here http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/notroc...

Habitat:

Tropical rainforest in the Ecuadorian Amazon region.

Notes:

I think this one might belong to the Tityus genus.

Thanks, it's quite amazing how they glow under UV light!
