Dog Vomit Slime Mold

Fuligo Septica

Description:

Normally a fairly bright yellow "glob" of matter. It is actually a slime mold rather than a fungus.

Habitat:

This "glob" was on a dead tree trunk in a swampy area that is currently drying w/ numerous ferns surrounding it. It has full sun exposure. From the time it was first observed the previous evening until the photo was taken it had been exposed to 3/4 of a days direct sun. This dried it out and apparently changed its color.
