Libellula luctuosa
This dragonfly was resting on a African iris plant. This one here was a female, while males have blue abdomens, and more white on the wings. These dragonflies are in the group of king skimmers.
In my garden, Fort Worth, Texas.
This dragonfly species is commonly found in muddy substrates, or still bodies of waters such as ponds, lakes, streams, and creeks.
