Promethea Silkmoth Caterpillar

Description:

Family: Saturniidae, Subfamily Saturniinae. Approximately 1.25 inches long. Most likely 5th instar. Shedding "mask" on leaves of small tree. All green except for 4 red knobs above the thorax and 1 yellow knob on the 8th abdominal segment. Hosts: Cherry, maple, birch, apple and other bushes.

Habitat:

Edge of woodlands to open meadow.

Notes:

3rd caterpillar found on the same small tree. Possibly cherry.
